A Sinister Assassin
These black-and-white aerial photographs were taken for Antonin Artaud’s A Sinister Assassin, edited and translated by Stephen Barber and published by Infinity Land Press in 2022. The book illuminates Artaud’s last, most intensive work, undertaken primarily at a pavilion on the grounds of a convalescence clinic in Ivry-sur-Seine, and recounts the events surrounding his death.
Taken during a field trip to Paris and Marseille in the summer of 2021, these photographs capture the only remaining tangible links to Artaud’s presence in Ivry-sur-Seine 74 years on: the topography of streets and parkways he frequented, trees that surrounded his pavilion, and the locations of his first and second burials (Paris 1948; Marseille 1975).
